Drafter- Marine Electronic Systems

JOB TITLE:      Drafter - Electrical

The ideal candidate will primarily use AutoCAD and Inventor software, Microsoft Office  and  various other drafting and 3D modeling software to develop drawings that meet engineering specifications. Strong foundation and knowledge of ABYC Electrical standards. Experience with marine electrical wiring and electronics requiring single-phase, 2-phase and 3-phase systems.


  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
  • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design and build efficiency documentation.
  • Lay-out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
  • Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation of systems.
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
  • Design scale or full-size blueprints of specialty items.
  • Draw, layout, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Read and interpret SBI, Department of Defense, MIL-SPEC, COLREGS and ABYC drawing standards (ASMI Y.14/MIL-DTL-31000C) and customer supplied documentation as guidelines.
  • Develop and prepare detailed drawings that include various views, dimensions and tolerances, fasteners and joining requirements (welding), sectional profiles, assembly and subassembly drawings from sketches, marked-up prints, layouts, 3D models, photographs and SBI and 3rd party manufactured products. Drafts detailed drawings such as creating layout drawings, mechanical detail drawings, piping systems, electrical and electronic systems, “work-in-progress” and final assemblies
  • (Robert McNeel and Associates Rhinoceros 4.0 software experience a plus)

Desired Education  & Work Requirements:

Minimum Education Level: High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience Requirement:  2-years recent professional drafting (marine engineering a plus)

Physical Requirements:Use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Ability to get on or under way with watercraft to inspect and test systems as needed.
